Is mystery shopping a scam?

No. Mystery shopping is a genuine form of market research in which businesses pay research companies to send trained shoppers who report on the service they receive. What is a scam is any "mystery shopper" offer that asks you to pay, transfer money, buy gift cards or share bank details.

The simple rule: a real mystery shopping company pays you. You never pay it.

4. It is a "like and earn" task

Small payments for liking posts or rating products, then a request to top up a balance to unlock bigger earnings.

5. It asks for private details

Your bank login, card PIN, OTP or a copy of your ID before you have done any work.

6. It is too good to be true

High pay for very little work, pressure to act today and no real company, office or website behind it.
