Numbers you can defend to a board
Quantitative market research measures markets, audiences and behaviours with numeric data from a defined sample, then projects it to the wider population using statistics you can defend. SMRC runs the full chain in the UAE and across the Gulf, from questionnaire design to weighted, significance-tested findings.
Quantitative research answers how many, how much, how often and by how much things have changed, with a number you can stand behind.
Where qualitative work explains why people behave as they do, quantitative work measures, sizes, compares and tracks that behaviour with statistical confidence. Its authority rests on three things: a representative sample, a disciplined questionnaire, and defensible statistics such as weighting, significance testing and stated margins of error. SMRC designs and delivers all three in Arabic and English, with GPS-tracked field teams and same-week toplines where the decision cannot wait.
Reach for quantitative research when you need to measure, size, compare or track with statistical confidence, and especially when the result must be defended to a board, a global head office or a regulator. It is the right method for market sizing and incidence, brand health, pricing and willingness to pay, concept and ad testing, customer satisfaction, segmentation, tracking, and shopper and channel behaviour.
It is not the right lead method for early-stage exploration, emotional or motivational depth, message development, or very small B2B universes where the numbers cannot carry statistical weight. In those cases we will say so, and often recommend a hybrid: qualitative to explore and shape, quantitative to measure and size. Recommending the honest design, rather than the biggest one, is how we protect the credibility of the result.
Every study starts from the business decision it must inform, not just the topic. That decision fixes the population, the metrics and the precision required, which in turn drive the sampling method and the sample size. We size for the smallest subgroup that must be read on its own, not only for the total, then confirm the resulting margin of error up front.
Questionnaire design follows a metric map, so every question earns its place by feeding a decision or a banner column. Scales are balanced and consistent, brand and attribute lists are rotated to remove order bias, and screeners are written tight enough to exclude out-of-scope respondents cheaply. The instrument is professionally translated, back-translated and cognitively checked before a soft launch of 20 to 50 interviews catches confusing wording, routing errors and interview-length problems.
Fieldwork runs by the right mode for the audience: CAPI on tablets for face-to-face and intercept, CATI for telephone, CAWI for online and panel, and blends of all three to reach segments a single mode under-covers. Live quota dashboards let the team rebalance before the sample skews. After fieldwork we clean, code, weight to known population targets, then run cross-tabulation and significance testing so no one mistakes noise for a real difference. Reporting leads with the decision and the recommendation, then the evidence, and always states base sizes, weighting and error margins so the work is auditable.
GPS-tracked, timestamped field interviews, so location and duration of every visit are verifiable
| What we measure | What you learn |
|---|---|
| Market sizing and incidence | Category penetration, buyer counts and share of requirement, so the opportunity is right-sized before you invest |
| Brand health metrics: awareness, consideration, usage, preference, imagery and NPS | Where your brand leaks in the funnel against competitors, so spend goes to the weakest, most fixable stage |
| Pricing and willingness to pay: elasticity, Van Westendorp and conjoint | The revenue-optimal price and how demand reacts to change, so margin is protected and launches de-risked |
| Concept, product and ad testing | Purchase intent, appeal, uniqueness and believability by option, so weak ideas are killed cheaply and the winner is backed by evidence |
| Customer satisfaction and CX drivers: CSAT and key-driver analysis | Which touchpoints actually move loyalty, so you fix what raises retention rather than only what generates complaints |
| Segmentation: cluster and latent-class analysis | How many customer types exist, their size, needs and value, so targeting and messaging aim at the segments worth winning |
| Tracking studies across waves | Whether KPIs are genuinely moving, with significance, giving early warning on decline and proof of what campaigns achieve |
| Shopper and channel behaviour | Where and why people buy and what drives store and channel choice, so distribution, range and in-store execution get sharper |
| The statistical read: weighting, base sizes and significance | Which differences are real and which are random, so decisions hold up to boards, head office and auditors |
We start from the business decision the study must inform, which fixes the population, the key metrics and the precision required before a single question is written.
We build the questionnaire from a metric map, set quotas on the variables that matter, and size the sample for the smallest subgroup you need to read on its own, then confirm the margin of error.
We collect data by the right mode or blend of modes, with live quota dashboards, GPS-tracked interviews, back-check validation and automated fraud and quality checks running throughout.
We weight to population targets, run significance testing, and deliver a decision-led report with cross-tabs and, where useful, a dashboard, plus a same-week topline where the decision is urgent.
SMRC is an independent Dubai consultancy with a senior team whose backgrounds include time at established international research firms, so global-standard method meets genuine local knowledge of the UAE and the wider Gulf. Because the UAE is a majority-expatriate market of many nationalities, we quota and weight on nationality and emirate, not just age and gender, and we field bilingually in Arabic and English as standard, adding further languages where the target requires. Our fieldwork is GPS-tracked and timestamped and validated through back-checks, and for shopper, retail and channel studies we can pair survey data with a retail panel of around 1,000 stores for a shopper-to-shelf view. Where a decision is time-critical, we deliver same-week toplines with the full analysis to follow, always reporting base sizes, weighting and margins of error so the evidence is auditable.
It depends on the precision you need and how many subgroups you want to read separately, not on a fixed rule. For a total-market read, samples of several hundred to around 1,000 or more are common. The driver is the margin of error you can accept, for example plus or minus 3 to 5 percent at 95 percent confidence, and the smallest subgroup you must analyse on its own. We size to your decision, then confirm the resulting error margin up front.
Neither is universally better; it is a fit-to-objective choice. Online is fast and cost-efficient for connected, mainstream segments. Face-to-face and intercept reach segments that online under-covers, such as some Emirati, blue-collar, older or lower-income groups, and allow longer, more complex interviews. We often blend modes to keep the sample representative.
Through quotas on the variables that matter, such as nationality, gender, age, emirate and category usage, during fieldwork, and weighting to known population targets afterwards. We also report base sizes and margins of error, so representativeness is transparent rather than assumed.
Field interviews are GPS-tracked and timestamped, and we validate a proportion through back-check call-backs, plus automated checks for speeders, straight-lining and duplicates. This is a core part of our quality control, not an add-on.
Yes. We design and field bilingually as standard in Arabic and English, add further languages where the target requires, and use professional translation with back-translation. Because the UAE population is majority expatriate, roughly nine in ten residents, we quota and weight on nationality so the sample reflects the real population you are targeting.
Timelines depend on sample size, mode and questionnaire length, but where a decision is urgent we can deliver same-week toplines, with the full analysis and report following. Deliverables include cross-tab tables, a decision-led report and, where useful, an interactive dashboard, always with significance testing so you know which differences are real.
Tell us the decision you need to make. We will design the study around it and bring you evidence you can act on, in Arabic and English, across the UAE and Gulf.
